Cello's donuts and dips DAVAO--the complete dozen

Last wednesday, i visited Cello's Donuts and Dips. It is located along Gov Sales Street, in front of Chimes.

I met one of the part-owners of the place, and i interviewed him a bit. I wanted to cover the store for a newspaper article.

I got really excited, because this was, in my opinion, the only REAL donut shop in Davao City. When you walk in the door, you realize that the air is filled with the smell of dough, sugar, chocolate, cinnamon, and even durian (they were experimenting on a durian donut for this branch). If heaven had a smell, i imagine it would smell like this.

The owner, Bel, was very nice and even paid the 6 pesos i lacked (long story. they didnt have change, the cashier asked me for 6 pesos...i didnt have any...blah blah blah), and offered to buy me two more donuts: their specialty--Oreo and Cheese.

Unfortunately, I had already ordered two donuts you see below: M&Ms and Cinammon, and my tummy couldnt take any more donuts.
the M&Ms donut was not as sweet as i expected it to be, which is good for most people, but bad for me. I like everything to be extra-sweet. good thing they have dips! but, il tell you more about that later.

I LOVED their cinnamon donuts. They didnt taste sugary like other cinnamon products; they really tasted like cinnamon.I loved it sooooooo much. Usually, i do not give out compliments, just isnt a habit i formed, but after having a bite of this, i just had to tell Bel how good it was.

After two days, i convinced mom to buy some donuts, so she sent me to cello's since i was raving about it the whole day. I brought home a dozen (300 pesos) plus a toblerone dip

we had (from the top left) Oreo, Cheese (with caramel filling), dark Chocolate something (i think. which is a premium donut, but is priced the same as the regular ones. again, not sure about this), Cinnamon crunch, M&Ms and cinnamon. We also had the classic cheese but its not in the picture

once i opened the box, my brothers instantly took their picks, as they reserved the flavors that they thought would suit their fancy. everybody was happy with their picks, and we all enjoyed the freshly made donuts.

Somehow it made me realize, these donuts are not your ordinary pasalubong donuts. these donuts make you feel a bit proud that you've brought home a special treat for the family. and though the donuts were gone in a couple of minutes, the satisfaction it brought to our tummies and foodie souls seemed to last for an eternity...or at least for our next donut craving.
the dough is lovely, moist and sweet, but not too sweet. i love it when its warm, i love it when its stale, i love when it just came out of the fridge, i love it when it just came out of the toaster.

these are my top three picks: classic cheese, oreo and cinnamon!
plus i bought a toblerone dip. this small cup costs 50 pesos, but it is made of pure toblerone! No extenders whatsoever.
thats my mommy, dipping her oreo donut in the toblerone dip
and thats my hand enjoying toblerone and the cinnamon crunch donut

Power Pops

Here's a new discovery that all kids, and kids at heart, like. Power pops! they are kinda like those kellog's rice crispies treats, but these are less chewy, and more crunchy.they are cheaper too. i have sworn off eating too many sweets, but this is just too good to resist. i love it!

Guylian's Extra Dark Chocolate

We decided to open one of the chocolates papa brought from his trip to spain and france. this was soooo yummybut i wouldnt recommend it to people who dont love dark chocolate. its 70% cocoa, and there isnt a gram of sugar there.
its not as bitter as you'd imagine, but its just not sweet. :D its sooo good. i love chocolate, any ind of chocolate!

Oishi Gourmet Picks Waasabi and Nori Flavored Potato Chips

i have already featured the kimchi flavored potato chips from oishi, which i loved but today i decided to try the wasabi and nori variety.

i like it very much, but the rest of my family founmd it too spicy and a bit painful to the tongue. it costs 65 for a big bag, which, disappointingly, is only a fifth full of chips

Kare-Kareng Pata

Mama cooked some kare-kare tonight, but instead of using ox tail and tripe, she used pork legs

it was really good, i like how the fat was soooo soft, and well, kare-kare for me is all about the tail and the tripe, but when we cant have that, this is a really good alternative! try it some time!

i lurve it!
miss joey (our station manager at mix fm) gave me one donut

All Dogs at 25 pesos

Purefoods' hotdog on stick stalls are celebrtating their 25th anniversary by offering ALL their products at 25 pesos! I find that sooo cool, and im like : avail, avail, avail!

i order this japaeno-dog with mustard. i lurved it! it wasn't too spicy, and the jalapeno right smack in the center of the dog was absolutely lovely!
i will definitely order this more often
i also ordered the bacon cheesdog, which was, as usual, lovely!

it was soft, moist and warm...sooo, sooo good and juicy! love it!
see the cheese oozing in the middle?
i also had a corn dog... yes, i ate all these in one day!
i love their corn dog, evwen though its mostly batter; but it reminds me of childhood

the promo is available on all "hotdog on sticks" outlts in davao city until the 25th!

My brunch!

Even though im not really a fan of kakanin, kutsinta has always been one of my favorites. i like the texture, the consistency and the sweet taste. plus there's nothing like eating a jelly-like foodstuff in the morning
and it even looks photogenic, all arranged in a paper plate like that.
after a couple of minutes, i started craving for something else for my lunch

it was nioce to see some pork and beans, because we havent had pork and beans ion a very long while, nobody seems to like it anymore. the small can we opened this morning has not yet been consumed and its now 9 pm.haha
there was also some Argentina chunky corned beef. it was really chunky, the corned beef pieces were HUGE! but the taste was not so nice. it still tasted like ordinary Argentiona corned beef, blah! give me my purefoods fix pls!

We also had chicken tortas, which everybody seems to LOVE, except for me, and some cheese sticks. it was a so-so brunch for me. i ate more kutsinta

Leftover Makeover: Pork Chops

Today, we had some leftover breaded pork chops, and i decided (since nobody was gonna want to eat it anyway, since pork chops tend to get dry and tough) to give it a make over.

this is a quick and simple recipe, im sure everybody in your family will enjoy!

first, i sliced the pieces of fried pork chops
then, i washed, boiled and quartered some small potatoes
i then sliced some tomatoes, and minced some garlic. we happened to have mushrooms in the pantry, so i decided to add some also. if you dont have mushrooms, you could skip this ingredient. the idea here is working with what you have
i suateed the garlic in some oil and butter (always use oil with butter, because butter burns quickly if you sautee with it sans oil)

also, put in your garlic BEFORE ypou turn on the fire. that way, it still has time to release all its garlicky goodness, instead of quickly burning in hot oil.
then add in your tomatoes.
and mushrooms...
in a mug, dissolve a packet of knorr cream of mushroom soup mix in hot water
pour that over your sauteed veggies
and season it with slat and pepper. for this dish i used white pepper, just because i didnt want the dish to have black flecks (not too attractive ina white sauce). i also put oregano and basil. if you do not have oregano or basil, you may use bay leaves instead
then, i added my pre-boiled potatoes. it is important to boil these beforehand, otherwise, it would not cook through. if you do not have potatoes, you may also skip this ingredient, but my brothers love it
add in your leftover pieces of breaded pork chops
and then transfer everything to an oven-safe dish
top it with cheese and bake it until the cheese melts
your dish is ready to serve!

pretty snazzy for some leftover, ey?
